In the previous blog, I elaborated on how going digital during the lockdown can make the hiring process smooth. There have been an onslaught of trends in digital collaboration and remote communication tools that help companies prep-up with tight strategies for BCP planning and execution. But when it comes to hiring, there are few good-old tech tools and strategies that still save the day!

Ask any recruiter if they can make do without these common technologies even under any normal hiring scenario? The answer is no. Then, there are few niche ideas that some employers can leverage to stand out and make a lasting impression. They can be equally intriguing and smart when combined with our regular remote recruiting processes.

Let me start by listing down the popular trends in digital hiring to make it more cutting-edge in the wave of lock down:

It’s all about going Mobile:

According to a latest study on the new age recruiting technique, about 41 percent of companies use mobile strategies while recruiting outside talent. The use of mobile apps in job search has made hiring on mobile venues a common place across the world. Most job seekers communicate with companies using their phones.

How Job Seekers Communicate with Companies

To make the selection process more efficient and effective, you can leverage the chat options available on the mobile recruitment apps, send sms and emails to initiate the hiring and screening procedures. Whatsapp messaging has also gained importance in the last few years for coordinating with candidates and giving them updates on hiring process.

Making this a part of the recruiting strategy can speed up the initial candidate filtering process by giving them a quick, transparent look into the position, the company, compensation and other relevant aspects.

Time-efficient Video Interview Tools:

The average time taken by a company to hire talent is close to 36 days, suggests a study. With Microsoft Teams, Zoom Call, FaceTime, Skype and Google Hangout it becomes easier to save time and energy in recruitment alone. Recruiting staff can schedule remote interviews in situations when the candidates cannot physically turn up to the office.

The video calls and interviews help in making real-time assessments of the candidates’ performance, include tests and technical rounds that would require them to demonstrate or write things. Recruiters can make use of draw.io and Lucidchart during videos interviews.

ATS:

ATS plays a very important role in the new age recruitment by enabling recruiters track their applicants and parallelly share automatic feedback emails and calls. ATS helps create a pipeline for the recruiters for the future roles.

Virtual Reality:

Incorporating virtual reality can certainly have a drastic impact on the interview process and onboarding process. The use of VR technology to assess how the candidates can respond in practical settings can provide a better picture of their competencies and abilities that a recruiter is looking for.

Moreover, it helps create an interactive experience similar to gaming where VR technology has been extensively used. Job seekers may respond better to gamification in the hiring funnel and for this reason few renowned companies have been making its best use for effective candidate screening.

Hiring processes change in the blink of the eye across all industries. It is up to the leaders and decision makers to adapt to the change to up the recruitment game. Knowing the trends and using latest technology can help fill up the existing gaps. But, with soaring competition it is all about taking a chance with newer technologies that appeal to new generation audience with evolved tastes and expectations.
